Biden promises to half emissions by 2030

US President Joe Biden has unveiled the goal to cut emissions by 50% from 2005 levels in 10-years.

While US climate envoy John Kerry added The United States will likely exceed the pledge to reduce emissions.

He made the announcement at the start of a US-hosted virtual global climate summit.

40 countries including big emitters like China, India, and Russia are attending the 2-day event.

In their opening statements… the leaders of China and India kept to previously announced targets.

Meanwhile, Europe wants to be “the first climate-neutral continent in the world”

UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson summarising the event saying it can’t be a “politically correct green act of bunny hugging,” 

The US is also set to help poorer countries with a promise to double climate aid.

It comes as Joe Biden’s presidency marks a shift of policy for the U-S.
