Air strikes have pounded Sudan’s capital despite a truce aimed at allowing civilians to flee the conflict zone.

The fighting has intensified across Khartoum between warring sides, the Sudan Army and the Rapid Response Forces.

It was hoped the truce would be extended by another three days.

More than 500 deaths have been reported so far, with the true number expected to be higher.

Sudan’s former prime minister says there are many issues affecting his nation, and a transition will be difficult.

“I think the Sudan transition, this time, is very complex and very different,” Abdalla Hamdok told a conference in Nairobi, Kenya. “There are so many issues associated with it.

“I think it will be a nightmare for the world. This is not a war between an army and small rebellion.

“It is almost like two armies.”
