Facebook VR recall after users break out in facial rashes and hives

Facebook’s Virtual Reality division is set to recall a series of foam facial liners which are included with its Oculus Quest 2 line of VR headsets.

An urgent recall notice reported over 5000 reports of “skin irritation” from consumers many of which require medical attention. 

Officially unveiled Sept 16, 2020 during Facebook Connect 7 the Quest 2 range of headset is capable of running as a standalone headset with an internal, Android-based OS, or with Oculus-compatible VR software as well.

While announcing the Quest 2, Facebook also announced the upcoming release of Oculus Move, a fitness tracking software to be included with the device.

In light of these developments, Facebook is pausing sales of the Oculus Quest 2 in North America and is now offering a silicone-liner replacement to all owners of the existing hardware.
