Sri Lankan forces given orders to end protests

Sri Lankan authorities have been told to ‘shoot law-breakers on sight’ as anti-government protests continue

Demonstrators are calling for the President to resign as the country suffers through its worst economic crisis ever.

This follows the President’s brother stepping down from his role as prime minister… as violence engulfs the streets.

This resignation was expected to bring at least some calm to the situation, but citizens remain angered.

The government has now given orders to its special forces to open fire on any demonstrators who are looting, causing damage or risking “harm to life”.

Tens of thousands of army, navy and air force personnel are patrolling the streets of Colombo and crowds continue to gather.

So-far, eight people have died and more than 200 people have been injured as a result of the violence.
