Skating’s governing body bans Russia and Belarus from hosting championships, condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

The International Skating Union (ISU) says no international competitions will be held in Russia and Belarus, until further notice.

Russia was previously scheduled to host the Rostelecom Cup in figure skating in November 2022.

However, ISU says they are now looking for a replacement host for the Rostelecom Cup.

“ISU Members interested in hosting the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating event scheduled on
November 25 to 27, 2022 are requested to contact the ISU Sports Director,” ISU says.

The global body for the sport is also enforcing other restrictions like barring Russian and Belarusian skaters from participating in international competitions.

“Until further notice no Skaters belonging to the ISU Members in Russia (Russian Skating Union and the Figure Skating Federation of Russia) and Belarus (Skating Union of Belarus) shall be invited or allowed to participate in International Competitions, including ISU Championships and other ISU Events,” the ISU statement reads.

The announcement from ISU comes after other sport bodies have also banned Russia and Belarus from hosting or competing in events.

Wimbledon also recently announced that it will ban Russian and Belarusian players from competing.
