Russia’s Gazprom has halted gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria

The energy giant says it had stopped all gas supplies “until payment is made” in Russian rubles.

President Vladimir Putin has previously said Russia will only accept payment for deliveries in its national currency.

But Bulgaria’s Energy Minister says the country has paid for its gas deliveries for April.

It says halting gas supplies would be a breach of its current contract with the supplier.

Russia’s top lawmaker says the company has made the right decision in suspending supplies.

Alexander Nikolov says Moscow should do the same with other “unfriendly” countries.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary General has held talks with President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov, where he says he understands Moscow’s grievances and frustrations.
