It’s been confirmed the Islamic State mastermind responsible for the 2021 bombing at Kabul airport in Afghanistan has been killed by the Taliban.

The August bombing killed 170 civilians and 13 U.S. soldiers as people were trying to flee the country.

The I.S. figure died weeks ago but the death has only now been confirmed by intelligence officials.

His name has not been released.

The U.S. determined the outcome through intelligence gathering and monitoring of the region.

Experts in the government have high confidence this individual is indeed the key person responsible.

The U.S. reportedly learned of the leader’s death in early April.

It is unclear whether he was targeted by the Taliban or if he was killed during ongoing fighting between I.S. and the Taliban.
