New tech in Iraq concerning America

Published

on

Following US President Joe Biden’s move to launch airstrikes against Iran militia groups, officials are concerned about a new type of drone that has been developed.

The new drone technology can reportedly evade American surveillance and defense tactics and has been used by the militia group in recent times.

Last month, an armed drone exploded at a dining facility in Baghdad’s airport where U-S troops and diplomats pass through.

On Sunday, the US retaliation attacks against the Iranian militia were targeted at operational and weapons storage facilities.

The Pentagon says these targets were selected “because these facilities are utilised by Iran-backed militias that are engaged in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks against U.S. personnel and facilities in Iraq.”

It follows American authorities raising alarms for weeks about the risk to the country’s armed forces in the wake of these more sophisticated, Iranian-made drones.

The drones are controlled without a pilot, with many having GPS navigation systems that are far less visible to surveillance technology and able to withstand “jamming”.

Despite rocket attacks being common in this region, US authorities are certainly on edge as they try to combat these so-called “suicide drone” attacks.

Intelligence and military personnel believe it is a clear escalation by Iran – and an indication that America no longer rules the skies in Iraq.
