Hitman admits to detonating car bomb killing Maltese Journalist

The man accused of assassinating a journalist is dropping the bomb on who else was involved

George Degiorgio says he would have increased the price to carry out her assassination if he knew more about Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The 53-year-old was killed in 2017 after reporting on corruption and political events in Malta.

Degiorgio says rather than accepting the €150,000 payout he received, he would have gone for €10 million instead.

“For me it was just business. Business as usual.”

He has apologised for the reporter’s murder. after he and his co-accused brother previously pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

Degiorgio brothers accused of murdering Malta journalist

Degiorgio’s confession comes his lawyers tried to secure a pardon in return for testifying about the murder and other alleged crimes involving prominent Maltese figures.

He has offered to testify about the involvement of two former ministers in an armed robbery.

Yorgen Fenech is the man behind Degiorgio and his two accomplices carrying out the hit.

Fenech is one of Malta’s most prominent businessmen, and has strongly protested he is innocent.

His lawyer says “he at no point wanted, actively searched for or sponsored Caruana Galizia’s assassination.”
