It is now all but confirmed – U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet during a virtual summit next week

Although no exact date has been announced, the meet follows relations between the two countries gradually improving over the past few months.

The mend in relations comes despite China and America’s standoff over Taiwan’s independence and concerns in Washington over Beijing’s reported increase in nuclear arsenal.

The White House is yet to comment on the reports of the meeting between XI and Biden, but says there is “an agreement in principle” for a virtual meeting “before the end of the year.”

The spokesperson says the meeting is “part of America’s ongoing efforts to responsibly manage the competition between our countries,” and is “not about seeking specific deliverables.”
