China’s Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Commission, the nation’s second-ranking military leader, has declared China’s intention to bolster military cooperation with the United States.

Speaking at a high-profile international security forum, General Zhang Wei, the influential figure, expressed a commitment to enhancing military ties and fostering a more stable and collaborative relationship with the US.

General Zhang Wei’s statement comes at a time when global tensions have been escalating, primarily due to territorial disputes and technological competition. The senior military leader emphasised the importance of open dialogue and trust-building measures between the two military superpowers. He further stressed the need for mutual respect, crisis management, and the avoidance of unnecessary confrontation in international affairs.

This unexpected overture signals a potential shift in Sino-US military relations, though scepticism remains regarding the feasibility of such cooperation in a world fraught with geopolitical challenges.
