What is Biden’s ‘Buy American Rule?’

US President Joe Biden has used an address in Pennsylvania to unveil a plan to boost American-made products with the Buy American Rule

The Biden administration is pushing to support US manufacturing companies, strengthen the sector and get more Americans into work with the proposed ‘Buy American Rule’.

This follows the administration announcing that the threshold of products that qualify as “American-made” will also be increased.

Speaking in Pennsylvania, Biden says “if you give an American worker just a chance, there’s nothing they won’t do”

“The Federal government is a major buyer in a number of markets for goods and services, including the single largest purchaser of consumer goods in the world,” said a POTUS statement.

“Leveraging that purchasing power to shape markets and accelerate innovation is a key part of the Biden industrial strategy to grow the industries of the future to support U.S. workers, communities, and firms”.

“Today, I’m placing my bet on America.”

While the country will keep its trade corridors open with other countries, Biden warned America needs to have a resilient supply chain of its own so it’s never at the mercy of another country for critical goods.

The President also used the opportunity to praise the recent bipartisan infrastructure bill following both Republican and Democratic senators announcing that they had reached a deal with the White House.
