Biden blasts “radical” Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade

President Joe Biden has blasted what he’s calling a radical decision by the US Supreme Court to overturn abortion rights

Washington has been stunned by the leaking of a draft decision from America’s top court, which could see the end of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalised abortion.

The draft supreme court decision on Roe versus Wade has been denounced by Democrats and stunned moderate conservatives.

Politico published the draft, but it’s now been confirmed by the court that the text is authentic.

But the court stresses it doesn’t represent the final decision of the justices.

Even still, it’s a white hot issue across the United States.

Democrats are now scrambling to find a response to the news that abortion access for American women could now come to an end.

US President Joe Biden warns the decision. could have far wider implications.

“It’s a fundamental shift in American jurisprudence.”

The Roe decision recognised that the right to personal privacy under the U.S. Constitution protects a woman’s decision to terminate her pregnancy.

“It becomes the law, and if what is written is what remains, it goes far beyond the concern of whether or not there is the right to choose,” Biden added.

“It goes to other basic rights – the right to marriage, the right to determine a whole range of things.”

The President is now urging voters at the upcoming midterms to elect lawmakers who support abortion rights so Congress can pass national legislation, making Roe permanent.

Protests have erupted across the United States, particularly in Washington, and outside the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile the court wants to know how this draft decision became public.

Chief Justice John Roberts has launched an investigation into how the draft was leaked, calling it a “betrayal.”

US pressures Ukraine to accept a peace plan risking territory loss amid ongoing conflict with Russia.

The United States is pressuring Ukraine to accept a peace plan that would see the country surrender territory and military equipment as part of a negotiated settlement with Russia. The proposal has sparked concern within Kyiv over the potential loss of sovereignty and long-term security.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is in Turkey discussing this plan, which may also involve cuts to Ukraine’s armed forces. His visit comes as Washington intensifies efforts under the Trump administration to secure an end to the conflict, despite fears the terms could undermine Ukraine’s national interests.

As Russian forces continue their aggressive campaign, holding roughly 19% of Ukrainian territory, Zelenskiy is attempting to revive peace talks before winter further complicates the frontline. The stakes remain high as the geopolitical landscape shifts.

Senate upholds vote to release Epstein files despite White House delay attempt; Trump signals intent to sign bill.

The White House tried to delay a vote on the release of Justice Department files connected to Jeffrey Epstein, even as former President Trump insisted there was nothing to hide.

Despite this, the Senate approved the measure exactly as it passed the House, ignoring amendments proposed by Trump’s aides. This move clears the path for the files to be made public in full.

Trump has indicated he intends to sign the bill, marking a significant shift after the White House’s attempt to block or delay the vote proved unsuccessful. The decision could have wide-reaching implications for transparency and ongoing investigations.
