Apple to scan iPhones for child sex abuse images

Published

on

Apple says it will launch new software to analyse photos for sexually explicit images of children.

The tech giant will check stored photos in a user’s iCloud photos account and then report any breaches to authorities.

The company will also launch a feature to detect photos sent and received in the Messages app to or from children to see if they are explicit.

Any user who feels their account has been flagged by mistake can file an appeal.

It follows a white paper into the technology and third-party analysis of the proposal amid privacy concerns.
