Allyson Felix announces her retirement

One of the most decorated female track and field Olympians of all time, will retire at the end of the season

Allyson Felix has won 11 Olympic medals, including seven gold.

These include four in the 4x400m relay, two in the 4×100, and one in the 200 metre sprint.

“I want to say goodbye and thank you to the sport and people who have helped shape me the only way I know how—with one last run,” she told her Instagram followers.

The 36-year-old American says never in her wildest dreams would she have imagined a career like the one that she has had.

“I have given everything I have to running and for the first time I’m not sure if I have anything left to give.”

In 2018, she gave birth to her daughter and then became the most successful athlete in World Championships history just a year later.

She’s also taken on Nike over maternity pay, after it was reported that the company wanted to pay her 70 per cent less after she became a mother.
