Hong Kong says national security law has city ‘back on the right track’

Published

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive has defended the national security law in China, saying it has ended chaos and brought stability

Carrie Lam’s five-year term, which ends next year, has been marked by anti-government protests, and criticism about the national security law.

The Leader says Hong Kong “has got back on the right track of one country, two systems.”

She says “governance has returned to normal under the protection of the national security law”.

Lam also outlined plans to develop the north of the city into a metropolitan area, with over 900,000 homes, which will ease a housing crisis in the financial hub.

This follows Beijing exerting increasing control over the former British colony, and demanding reforms to the world’s least-affordable housing market.
