Yemen crisis – fears that millions could see aid reduced

Published

Yemen’s economy is collapsing, amid a growing humanitarian crisis across the nation

The conflict in one of the world’s poorest nations is growing more violent, and has raised serious concerns among the U-N’s Deputy Humanitarian Chief.

More than 20 million Yemenis – two-thirds of the population – need humanitarian assistance, but aid agencies are reportedly running out of money.

It follows a series of grim remarks from the UN’s Assistant Secretary-General during a briefing to the Security Council.

Aid agencies are now helping nearly 13 million people across the country, which is about three million more than just a few months ago.

But the Chief warns that aid agencies don’t have enough money to keep going at this scale.

He warns that “in the coming weeks and months, up to 4 million people could see their food aid reduced”.
