English batsman, Joe Root has been named as a leading cricketer
The Wisden, or ‘Bible of Cricket’ is a book published annually in the U.K. that recognises the best cricketers each year.
The 31-year-old made 1,708 runs in 15 matches last year, which is the third-highest number of Test runs scored in a single calendar year.
But his form comes as England won only four Tests last year.
Root is expected to step down as Test Captain following a recent loss to the West Indies.
He joins Freddie Flintoff and Ben Stokes as one of only three Englishman to win the award since it begun in 2004.
A player can only be named as a ‘Cricketer of the Year’ once in their career.
