Initial reports suggest the blast is an act of terror, carried out by a woman.

Turkey’s President has addressed his nation, vowing to punish those who are responsible for what he calls the “vile attack”.

There is a heavy police presence around the blast zone, with helicopters circling and a large number of ambulances.

The six people killed include a member of Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services, and his daughter.

Reporting on the attack remains difficult after the city’s criminal court issued a broadcast ban on all visual and audio news within the country.

International leaders are offering their support and condolences.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg tweeted his “deepest condolences” to the Turkish people, adding NATO “stands in solidarity with its ally,” Turkey.
