Why U.S and China are working hand in glove

China and the United States have agreed to boost their climate cooperation at the COP-26 summit in Glasgow

The two nations have released a joint declaration, which will “recall their firm commitment to work together” to achieve the 1.5-degree global temperature target.

China’s top climate advisor and negotiator says that when it comes to this issue, “there is more agreement between China and US than divergence”.

The key details in the declaration include reassessing methane emissions, transitioning to clean energy, and de-carbonisation.

This all comes despite Beijing refusing to join an agreement earlier this week to limit the harmful greenhouse gas, methane.

This agreement was signed by nearly 100 other countries, but China says it will instead develop its own “national plan” to address the issue.
