Volodymyr Zelensky makes surprise visit to France

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is in Paris making a surprise visit after a full day in London

His travels on Wednesday are only the second time that he’s left Ukraine, since Russia invaded a year ago.

Zelensky is having dinner with President Emmanuel Macron – and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz – who’s flown over.

The two leaders have been most influential to Ukraine – having been at the forefront of European aid and military donations to Kyiv.

High up on the agenda will likely be discussions about fighter jets for Ukraine’s air force.

The White House has ruled them out, but Zelensky is now looking elsewhere.

This visit began in England, where Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said fighter combat planes were part of the ongoing discussions with Ukraine.

The U.K. and Ukraine signed a declaration of unity.

And the U.K.’s armed forces will soon train Ukrainian Air Force pilots at their facilities.

Zelensky is not heading back to Ukraine just yet. He will join the 27 European Union leaders for their summit in Brussels.
