US Senate declares Putin a “war criminal”

The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a resolution condemning Russian President Vladimir Putin as a war criminal

In a rare show of unity in the deeply divided Congress, the Senate has condemned Putin’s war in Ukraine and the aggression by Russian forces – labelling the Russian President as a ‘war criminal.’

The resolution, introduced by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and backed by senators of both parties, encouraged the International Criminal Court in The Hague and other nations to target the Russian military in any investigation of war crimes committed during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russia has called its actions a “special military operation” to demilitarise and “denazify” Ukraine.

President Putin has also called Russia’s neighbour a US colony with a puppet regime.

Moscow has not captured any of the 10 biggest cities in the country following its incursion last month.

It is the largest assault on a European state since 1945.

US President Joe Biden has also announced $800 million in security assistance to Ukraine.

The announcement brings the total announced in the last week alone to $1 billion, according to AFP sources.
