U.S. President and First Lady visit site of horrific mass shooting

U.S. President Joe Biden and his wife, first lady Jill arrive in the south Texas town of Uvalde to offer their condolences and support to the victims’ families

The mass shooting is the nation’s deadliest in a decade, with the Bidens wiping away tears as they visited memorials at Robb Elementary School.

As the crowd shouted “do something”, Joe responded with “we will”, as pressure mounts on lawmakers to enact gun reform and reduce soaring levels of gun violence.

The President and first lady are also scheduled to meet with survivors and first responders.

Police say the gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, entered the school on Tuesday with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, killing 19 children and two adults.

Biden’s visit to Texas marks his third presidential trip to a mass shooting site, including his recent trip to Buffalo in New York, after a gunman killed 10 Black people in a grocery store attack.

The president was accompanied by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican who openly opposes new gun restrictions.
