The U.S. military is tracking a mysterious balloon that flew over American soil.

The Pentagon has been following the unidentified object for a week that has flown over Hawaii and is heading towards Mexico.

At this stage it’s not clear what it is or whom it belongs to.

An official says the object poses no threat to aerial traffic or national security and is not communicating signals.

It’s not clear if it’s a weather balloon or something else and officials say the U.S. could still shoot it down if it nears land.

This comes three months after shooting down the Chinese surveillance airship.

The White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre managed to dodge the press who eager for more information.

“I’ll get the Department of Defence to get back to you,” she said.
