U.S. First Lady Jill Biden has made a surprise trip to Ukraine for Mother’s Day, meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart, Olena Zelensky

Jill’s visit was keep under a cloak of secrecy, and she is the latest in a string of high-ranking America diplomats to visit the war-torn nation.

Her husband, President Joe Biden has not visited the country despite expressing a desire to so.

Jill says she “wanted to come on Mother’s Day”, telling Olena Zelensky she thought “it was important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to stop and this war has been brutal and that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine.”
