Turkey is in the thick of the country’s worst disaster in over eight decades
Two major earthquakes and aftershocks have caused devastation and killed over 3,700 people with over 15,000 injured across southeast Turkey and northern Syria.
The first major earthquake of magnitude 7.9 struck central Turkey and northwest Syria, injuring thousands as buildings collapsed.
The quake and a second 7.5 earthquake hit areas where hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees live.
Turkey’s disaster agency said more than 1,500 people died there and over 800 people have died in Syria.
Those numbers are still expected to rise as rescuers comb through mountains of rubble in freezing, snowy weather.
Survivors are being pulled from the rubble.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed 45 countries have offered support.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered help to both Turkey and Syria, as has Iran.
