Caleb Vitello has been removed as acting director of ICE due to frustrations over slow deportations but will oversee operations focused on arrests and deportations. The Trump administration is reshaping ICE leadership and intensifying efforts to increase daily arrest targets.

The acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Caleb Vitello, has been removed from his position due to frustration within the Trump administration regarding the slow pace of deportations.

Sources indicate that a new acting director is expected to be announced as the administration reshapes ICE leadership. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the ICE team will be expanded.

Despite his removal, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) clarified that Vitello has been given a new role overseeing field and enforcement operations focused on finding, arresting, and deporting illegal aliens.

Vitello, who was chosen by President Trump due to his close work with Trump’s immigration officials, will continue at ICE but will now lead the office responsible for arrests and deportations.

Efforts to reach Vitello for comment were unsuccessful.
