Trump declares “no survivors” after American Airlines and military helicopter crash, emphasises national unity amid tragedy.

US President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Thursday regarding the recent mid-air crash involving American Airlines flight 5342 and a military helicopter.

During the press conference, he expressed profound sorrow, stating, “It is an hour of anguish for our nation.”

He described the incident as a significant tragedy, noting the crash occurred in Washington, D.C., resulting in both aircraft being submerged in the Potomac River.

President Trump commended the efforts of local, state, federal, and military officials, recognising their prompt response to the situation.

He confirmed that the operation had transitioned to a recovery mission and regrettably announced, “Sadly there are no survivors.”

The President highlighted that victims included both Americans and Russians as well as individuals from other nationalities, though exact details were not immediately available.

It was confirmed that US and Russian figure skaters were aboard the flight, returning from a training camp in Kansas.

In his remarks, Trump emphasised unity among citizens during this difficult time, stating that differences fade in the face of tragedy.

He remarked, “We are one family and today we are all heartbroken.”

Crude oil surges 7% amid fears of Middle East conflict; Strait of Hormuz disruptions may push Brent over $100.

Crude oil prices spiked dramatically as investors react to the growing risk of a wider conflict in the Middle East. U.S. crude surged 7.2 percent, trading near $71.84 a barrel, signalling heightened concern across energy markets.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping chokepoint, has come under intense scrutiny. Rising war-risk insurance premiums and suspended tanker traffic are already slowing the movement of oil, creating ripple effects in global supply chains.

JPMorgan has warned that prolonged disruptions over three weeks could force Gulf producers to reduce output, potentially pushing Brent crude prices to between $100 and $120 a barrel. Markets are closely watching for developments that could reshape global energy pricing.
