Donald Trump was fined $10,000 on Wednesday for a second violation of a gag order in his civil fraud trial in New York.

The gag order, issued by Justice Arthur Engoron, was imposed on October 3rd after Trump posted a photo on social media falsely implying a connection between a court clerk and Senator Chuck Schumer.

During a break in the trial, Trump made comments to reporters accusing the judge of partisanship, leading Engoron to label it a “blatant” violation of the gag order.

Before being fined, Trump briefly testified but was unsuccessful in explaining his remarks. This fine followed a previous $5,000 fine on October 20 for a similar violation. The trial centres on allegations of fraudulent asset manipulation by Trump and his business, with potential far-reaching consequences for his financial empire.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, testified against him during this trial. Cohen has become a vocal critic of Trump and defended his credibility during cross-examination by Trump’s lawyer.

The trial is a significant legal challenge for Trump, who also faces other criminal cases. The outcome of this trial rests with Judge Engoron, who will decide on damages and potential bans against Trump and his sons, Eric and Donald Jr.
