A 15-year-old boy is dead, with others shot near the Moechella Music Festival

Four people, including two adults and a police officer, were shot near the Moechella Music Festival in Washington D.C.

The police officer has been hospitalised and is in stable condition.

The music festival was a Juneteenth celebration, which celebrates the liberation of enslaved people in the U.S.

“We certainly want to make sure people are held accountable when they hold unpermitted events in our city,,” says Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee.

The shooting took place on Sunday evening local time.

People reportedly began running when the gunshots rang out but are investigating the unfolding situation.

It comes as U.S. lawmakers place gun violence firmly on their agenda. Around 12 lawmakers are working together to develop a plan to improve school security and to keep guns away from criminals.
