He was born in 1938 in Cincinnati and began his career in the 1960s as a business executive at his father’s advertising company.

In 1970, Ted Turner purchased an Atlanta UHF station that would become the beginning of the Turner Broadcasting System.

He knew that taking a small town, fourth-placed network to the national level would change the industry.

In 1980, Turner launched the Cable News Network, revolutionising the news industry by providing 24-hour coverage that was both comprehensive and timely.

It began in an old Jewish club. Network executives worked on the top floor, and CNN was in the basement.
