Spain is placing limits on air conditioners and temperatures in large commercial buildings

Spain is limiting its cooling and heating in a bid to reduce its dependence on Russia’s oil and gas.

Under the rules, heating should not exceed 19°C and air conditioning should not be set below 27°C.

The orders will come into effect in a week. The changes apply to public spaces like airports, train stations, theatres, cinemas and shopping centres.

Tenants are also encouraged to keep their doors closed to keep the temperature stable.

Buildings will also need to show signs that explain the measures to customers and guests.

The Spanish Government is seeking to reduce the country’s gas consumption by 7 per cent.

it comes as the European Union outlines plans to limit its dependency on Russian gas altogether.
