Russians using smart TVs noticed a strange message on victory day
The online Russian TV schedule page looked funny with the name of every programme changed
Instead of the usual listing of channels, programmes were changed to “The blood of thousands of Ukrainians and hundreds of murdered children is on your hands,”
That message on screens also read “TV and the authorities are lying. No to war.”
Pro-Moscow messaging was loud and clear on Monday as Russia celebrated Victory Day
But the hack aimed to stop that, targeting ordinary Russians sitting by their televisions or looking things up on their search engines.
According to reports from Wash post, the anti-war message that appeared on the screens of smart TVs also appeared on the platforms of Yandex, Russia’s IT giant.
Like Google, it combines many products under one umbrella, including a search engine and a service providing TV programming schedules.
On that page, the daily programs for state-run Channel One and Russia-1 were also defaced early Monday.
