Russia rejects French claims it is becoming ‘subservient to China’

The Russian criticism follows an interview Macron gave to a Paris publisher

Russian officials have rejected claims by French President Emmanuel Macron that Moscow is becoming subservient to China.

Moscow says Western countries must get used to a world underpinned by the Kremlin’s close ties with Beijing.

The Russian criticism follows an interview Macron gave to a Paris publisher in which he condemned the Kremlin’s isolation brought on by its invasion of Ukraine more than 14 months ago.

Macron’s comments appeared to focus on talks in Moscow in March between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping at which they said they were deepening their strategic partnership by entering “a new era” of ties.

The Kremlin’s spokesperson says Russia’s relations with China were those of a strategic partner and had nothing to do with dependence.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister says Paris has become preoccupied with Moscow’s strengthened relations with China and changes that implied for the world order. #trending
