New reports today that Russia has a plan to sabotage wind farms and communication cables in the North Sea if war breaks out with the West.

The details follow a joint investigation by public broadcasters in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

It says Russia has a fleet of vessels disguised as fishing and research boats ready to swing into action if required.

They carry underwater surveillance equipment and map key sites for possible sabotage.

A Danish counter-intelligence officer says the sabotage plans are designed to be implemented if a full conflict with the West breaks out.

The programme Is considered highly important for Russia and is being controlled directly from Moscow.

The report focuses on a Russian vessel called the Admiral Vladimirsky.
