The UK Prime Minister is under increased pressure to enforce restrictions amid rising cases of Omicron – but the question is, will he?

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing pressure from all sides. From health chiefs warning of a winter catastrophe, and a party fed up with restrictions, threatening to turf him if the UK reimposes lockdowns.

Boris Johnson stopped short of announcing new measures, urging British citizens to instead take matters into their own hands, and exercise caution.

More than 91,000 covid cases were reported across the UK in just one day – the second highest on record.

Health chiefs want further curbs on how many people can gather together and have called for venues to shut once again.

His party is worried about the impact restrictions are having on business and the economy post-Brexit.

But leaked notes from the Scientific Advisory Group suggests hospital admissions across the UK could reach 3000 a day without intervention.

How other nations are responding to the

Many governments within the EU and the US are confronting similar dilemmas over how hard to come down in the face of Omicron.

The World Health Organization the strain appears to be more transmissible than the previous delta variant that itself led to surges in many parts of the world.

Early evidence suggests Omicron may also produce less serious illness — though scientists caution it is too soon to say — and that it could better evade vaccine protection.
