PM Defends educating Afghan women

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan has defended the rights of women in Afghanistan. He says that preventing females from receiving an education is “un-Islamic”

In an interview with the BBC, the leader set out several requirements that will need to be met if Pakistan is to formally recognise the Taliban as a government.

The PM is calling on the militant group to be respectful of human rights and is pushing for an inclusive style of leadership.

This all follows the Taliban excluding girls from secondary schools last week… with only boys and male teachers permitted to attend.

Khan also says that Afghanistan should not and cannot be a country where terrorists can seek refuge and hide, particularly when these individuals threaten Pakistan’s security.

But the PM believes that the progress the militant group is making is promising, saying QUOTE: “the statements they have made since they came to power have been very encouraging, and I think they will allow women to go to schools”.
