One U.S. pastor has confessed to an online relationship with a woman who wasn’t his wife

The Village Church leader and President of ‘Acts 29’, Matt Chandler is taking a leave of absence over an alleged online relationship.

He says the incident, which took place on Instagram was not sexual or romantic in nature. However, he has told the church community it was “unwise”.

The 48-year-old has pastored the high-profile baptist church in the Dallas area since 2002.

While he did not think he had done anything wrong, he soon reported the account to a church elder, and spoke to his wife.

“The Word of God holds me to a certain standard. And I fell short.”

Chandler says he was made aware of the inappropriateness of the relationship “several months ago”, when a woman met with him in the foyer of the church.

While his own wife, and the woman’s husband were aware of the conversations, the woman who approached Chandler did not agree it was appropriate.

Church elders are believed to be laying out plans for Chandler’s development. It is unclear when he will return from his leave of absence.
