NATO chief warns Ukraine war could last for ‘years’

Published

on

With the conflict in Ukraine continuing day by day, NATO’s chief Jens Stoltenberg says the West must be prepared to continue supporting the war-torn nation for the long haul

Jens Stoltenberg agrees the costs of war are high, but he argues the price of allowing Russia to secure its military objectives is even greater.

Speaking to the German newspaper “Bild”, the Nato chief says we must now mentally prepare for the fact that this war could take “years” not months.

It comes as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also warns of so-called ‘Ukraine fatigue.’

The United Kingdom’s newest military head also commented on the war, saying his troops must be capable of winning a ground war with Russia.

In a leaked internal memo, he says Russia’s invasion of Ukraine underlines the military’s core purpose “to protect the UK and to be ready to fight and win wars on land”.

Meanwhile, NATO’s Stoltenberg says supplying Ukraine with more modern weapons will increase its chances of being able to regain control of the country’s eastern Donbas region.
