Nadal ends winning streak losing to Fritz at Indian Wells

Taylor Fritz is the first American to win at Indian Wells since 2001, and he’s done it in style handing Rafael Nadal his first loss of the year

Nadal had won 20 straight matches, including lifting the Australian Open trophy, but his 21st was an uncomfortable affair for the Spaniard.

Nadal had to leave the court for treatment in the first set and never looked settled

Fritz saved two break points at 5-5 in the second set, securing his second ATP tour title and he was as surprised as anyone.

Andre Agassi was the last American to win at Indian Wells.

Incredibly, Fritz was nearly forced to retire before taking the court for the final, he hurt his ankle in his semi-final win and described the pain as the worst he had ever experienced.
