Myanmar coup – ousted leader accused of election fraud

Published

on

Myanmar’s former leader is facing further charges following allegations that she is guilty of election fraud and other lawless actions

The former State Counsellor was one of 16 individuals formerly charged on Tuesday by the military.

Aung San Suu Kyi has not been seen in public since a coup back in February removed her from power, as concerns grow around her safety and wellbeing.

But Myanmar’s military has moved to quash this speculation, with a spokesperson saying the former leader is being treated well while under house arrest.

Aung San Suu Kyi lawyers have also commented, saying the military junta is preventing them from speaking publicly about the ongoing case.

This all comes as the United Nation warns that the military crackdown could amount to crimes against humanity.
