Magnitude 7.2 earthquake shakes region near China

The tremor shook a lightly populated and remote part of Tajikistan

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has rocked Tajikistan.

Chinese state television is reporting the tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km at 8.37AM local time.

The epicentre was around 82 km from the nearest border with China and was felt in the country’s western Xinjiang region.

The Xinjiang railroad department halted all passenger trains running in the southern part of the region as a precaution.

Local authorities are reportedly inspecting bridges, tunnels, signal equipment and CCTV. #trending #feattured
