Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has set another record by becoming the first active NBA player to reach billionaire status
According to Forbes, James has earned approximately $380million in earnings for the three teams he represented in his 19 seasons in the premier basketball competition, and over $900m from endorsements and other business ventures.
These include endorsement deals with Nike, AT&T, PepsiCo, and Walmart, as well as investments in Tonal, Lyft and Blaze Pizza.
Last year James earned a whopping $121.2 million, making him the second highest-paid athlete in the world behind only footballer Leo Messi.
The 37-year-old also holds a minority stake in English Premier League side Liverpool, when he went into partnership with Fenway Sports Group in 2011, before becoming a part owner in the organisation.
The only other NBA player to pass the billion-dollar milestone is Michael Jordan, however, Jordan didn’t reach the ten-figure mark until a decade after retirement.
