Laboratory seized in Sudan capital: WHO

This is on top of many being left stranded in their homes with dwindling supplies of food and water

The World Health Organisation says one of the warring parties have seized a laboratory in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum.

It contains cholera and measles pathogens.

Dr Nima Saeed Abid, the WHO’s representative in Sudan, said the National Public Health Laboratory houses measles and cholera pathogens as well as other hazardous materials.

“So, with the electricity shut down and with no technician taking care of all these, the risk of biological hazard is high in Khartoum because of the occupations of the lab by one of the fighting parties. It is not really necessary to say which party.”

Fighting between Sudan’s army and a paramilitary group has killed hundreds and wounded thousands.

Hospitals and other essential services have been paralysed.

Many have been left stranded in their homes with dwindling supplies of food and water.

“Yesterday, we heard more reports of looting, of humanitarian supplies and warehouses.”

Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the U.N.’s humanitarian office, said it had been forced to cut back on some of its activities due to intense fighting.

Humanitarian operations had been transferred from Khartoum to Port Sudan, he said, adding that they were committed to continue to deliver for the people of Sudan.

American home prices are rising at faster pace now than in the last 20-years.

A recent analysis reveals a jaw dropping surge in the cost of American homes.

Since the start of 2020, U.S. home prices have surged 47% easily outstripping the gains seen in recent decades.

On top of that, home price growth so far this decade is on the verge of surpassing all the growth seen in the 2000s.

Many experts believe this decade’s housing market frenzy was ignited by a perfect storm — the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic triggering an unprecedented rush among buyers.

Tom Hutchens, the Executive Vice President of Production at Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions joins Veronica Dudo to discuss.
