King Charles III will be crowned King on Saturday, May 6 2023

King Charles III will be coronated on May 6, 2023. Buckingham Palace confirmed the news and says Charles’ wife, Camilla, will also be crowned Queen Consort during the ceremony.

It’s expected to be a much more low-key affair than Charles’ mother’s coronation. Queen Elizabeth’s which was a lavish event with plenty of pomp.

This time around, the palace says the ceremony will reflect the monarchy’s current and future roles. However, it will still being rooted in longstanding traditions.

Charles will be crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the event is set to last around one hour. This is much shorter ceremony than his mother’s, which went for over three.

Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation was the first to be televised. It was also estimated that around 27 million people tuned in to watch.

While Charles’ ceremony is expected to be more low-key than his mother’s, it’s still a highly anticipated event.

Buckingham Palace hasn’t released any official figures but it’s estimated that around 2,000 people will be in attendance, including members of the royal family, politicians and religious leaders.
