The annual White House Correspondents’ dinner has taken place at the Washington Hilton.

This year it had a more solemn undertone has President Joe Biden acknowledged the many American journalists who have been detained right around the world.

During his speech, Biden said the free press is “a pillar, maybe the pillar, of a free society, not the enemy.”

Prior to his arrival at the Hilton, he and first lady Jill Biden met privately with the parents of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

He has been imprisoned in Russia since March, charged with spying – charges he, his employer and the government all strongly deny.

But amongst this reflection and acknowledgement, there were still several jokes within Biden’s speech.

The U.S. President poking fun at the recent Fox News/Dominion settlement.

Attending as not only commander-in-chief but also as a presidential contender for 2024, Biden was sure to make fun of himself, and his age.

Biden also took aim at Elon Musk, joking the Twitter CEO could ruin the National Public Radio, or NPR, by purchasing it.
