Jacinda Ardern has a new role just weeks after resigning as New Zealand’s prime minister

Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has a new role.

Ardern will be working alongside international governments and social media companies to target extremism and terror content online.

Current PM Chris Hipkins announced the appointment, known as special envoy for the Christchurch Call.

It’s a newly created position.

Hipkins says the March 15 terror attacks on Christchurch were a defining moment for [the] country and Jacinda Ardern’s leadership and the Christchurch Call is part of [the government’s] response to those attacks.”

The Christchurch Call was created by Ardern in the wake of the mosque shootings, when a white supremacist killed 51 people.

The attack was live streamed on a number of social media platforms.

In the months that followed, Ardern pushed companies like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to create stronger protections to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
