Due to fears of attacks, tanker operators have ceased transit through the strait, critical for global oil and gas transport.

Iran stated that it took measures to prevent adversaries from exploiting the waterway.

The effectiveness of Iran’s letter in persuading shipowners to return remains uncertain and may depend on diplomatic resolutions.

Iran emphasised that security restoration in the strait is conditional on halting military aggression.

President Trump noted ongoing negotiations with Iran to conclude the conflict, although Iran denies current talks.

Senior analyst Dimitris Ampatzidis commented that the letter signals Iran has not instituted a formal blockade.

About 800 tankers are currently waiting on either side of the strait, while a limited number have passed in recent days.

S&P Global Market Intelligence indicated decreased shipments are leading to economic disruption globally, particularly in Asia.

Asian nations reliant on Middle Eastern oil may risk sending tankers if they trust Iran’s commitments.

Iran mentioned that vessels must adhere to unspecified safety and security regulations while transiting.

Kpler reported that 17 ships have been struck in the region since the conflict commenced.
