Iran has asserted responsibility for launching missile strikes near the US consulate in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region.

The Revolutionary Guards of Iran claimed that the targets were “spy headquarters and the gathering of anti-Iranian terrorist groups.”

Despite the attack resulting in four civilian casualties and six injuries, no damage was reported to US facilities, according to a US official.

Iran, in its statement claiming responsibility, asserted that it specifically targeted the headquarters of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.

The explosions illuminated the night sky with red fire and smoke, underscoring the heightened tensions in the region.
