Country’s government announces a return to tourist visas for international visitors

India is set to re-open to tourists after being closed for more than a year due to the pandemic.

The country had barred all foreign tourists in March 2020, following a strict lockdown when the pandemic first began.

The nation experienced a large spike in Covid-19 cases earlier this year, prompting stricter measures to curb the number of infections.

But the number of cases has fallen sharply in recent months.

It comes as the Government remains under pressure from industry groups that rely on foreign tourists.

Tourist visas will be granted for foreigners arriving on charter flights from October 15, and on other flights from November 15.
